It is all about quotes; our Day 11 for the Imperfect Blogging Challenge, that is. It is so hard for me to decide one just one that I love or use. Through the years there have been so many favorites. At times I would keep it as an email signature to remind me or what I feel I needed to hear at the time. One quote I kept for a email signature for a while is by Jim Roth: If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you will fall under somebody else’s plan, and guess what they have planned for you? Not much!
Sometimes there is a quote I choose to focus on for the year. For example, Marie Curie’s quote: “….We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves that we are gifted for something, and that this thing, at whatever cost, must be attained.“ (more on that one here).
I believe in the above quote by Marie Curie yet it also leads me to another favorite quote (of course it does) this one by Arthur Golden, used in Memoirs of a Geisha. Don’t judge. I have no idea why I would have one by a Geisha, on the other hand, she was not just a Geisha, the character was a woman that dealt with the reality of her life in a time when she had no other choice. She did not choose to be a Geisha but chose to do the best she could with her circumstances and said:
“We must use whatever methods we can to understand the movement of the Universe around us and time our actions so that we are not fighting the currents but moving with them.” -Arthur Golden, Memoirs of a Geisha.
I believe that as much as we want some things at a certain time, it will not always be when or how we expect it. I will always be determined and persevere as long as I understand the movement of the Universe around us and time our actions so that we are not fighting the currents but moving with them. And I do not need to even say how much I have hated flexibility or waiting for than I have felt I have “waited” for a number of things. In our go getter World we feel responsible if some things don’t turn out exactly as we want them or when we want them. So if I feel that I am fighting a current, I will put it to rest for a while. I will let it age a little, then I come back to it. Surprisingly enough, the Universe will open a window of opportunity when you least expect it and then you realize why it wasn’t ready before.
